Meet the Ambassador
Greetings from the Ambassador
I welcome you, on behalf of myself and my colleagues at the Embassy of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Beijing, to this website where you will experience a little taste of our beautiful country, and be provided with information on various aspects of the people, history and culture, as well as on the touristic attractions and investment opportunities.
It was on the 23rd of May, 1997 that diplomatic relations were established between the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the People’s Republic of China, marking the adherence of The Bahamas to the One-China Principle. The Bahamas opened its Embassy in Beijing in 2006 and appointed its first resident Ambassador two years later, in 2008. Over the years, The Bahamas and China have undertaken joint cooperative activities that span the gamut and include technical assistance and investment projects, scholarships for students to study in China at the tertiary level, as well as people-to-people exchanges. The Bahamas and China share cordial relations that have continued to strengthen and grow over the years.
The Bahamas marked its Jubilee Year on 10 July, 2023, when it celebrated its 50th Anniversary of Independence. It was also during this landmark year that the Embassy in Beijing presented an Exhibit entitled “A Retrospective on the Chinese Diaspora in The Bahamas”, which traced the decades-long connection between The Bahamas and China through the latter’s diaspora and displayed incontrovertibly that Chinese Bahamians are firmly entrenched as an integral part of Bahamian society, adding richly to its development, diversity, culture and history. The Year 2023 also saw the relocation of The Bahamas Embassy in Beijing to larger premises, which was deeply symbolic of the expanding relations between the two countries.
We hope that you will enjoy surfing the pages of this website which provides information on investment opportunities and also beckons you to visit the beautiful islands of The Bahamas, replete with white sandy beaches surrounded by crystalline ocean waters in every shade of green and blue.
We welcome you warmly to our country, the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
