Prime Minister Conducts Official Visit to China

Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and his delegation travelled to the People’s Republic of China on October 22 at the invitation of the Chinese Government. The Prime Minister first stopped in Hong Kong where he officially opened the Bahamas Maritime Authority Office.

While in Hong Kong he hosted a reception for potential investors in the areas of tourism, financial services and maritime services. The Prime Minister was hosted at a luncheon by and toured the facilities of Hutchinson Whampoa. He met with the company’s top executives to discuss their investments in The Bahamas, particularly the company’s hotel resort properties.

Mr. Ingraham and his delegation then travelled to Beijing to meet with senior Chinese officials to discuss a wide range of bilateral matters. He met with executives of the China Export Import Bank and the China State Construction Company on matters related to the Baha Mar Resort project. The Prime Minister then travelled to Shanghai where he attended the closing ceremonies for the 2010 Worlds's Fair, the Shanghai Expo.
